The Summer Palace

We decided to go to the Summer Palace on one of the smoggiest days of our visit to Beijing. The was a favourite place for many members of Chinese royalty, particularly Empress Cixi who, I understand, was a mean old cow.

Pretend the haze is a healthy, romantic mist rather than the poison-filled pollution it really is…

Oh, and these pictures are completely out of order.
